Counterbalance Studio is a Pacific Northwest boutique design studio providing full-service interior design to residential and commercial clientele.

We believe relationships are key to our success and we pride ourselves on our approachability, warmth and responsiveness. A process-driven, collaborative approach with clients, vendors, and skilled trades results in deeply personal, well-considered, and inspiring spaces.

Inspired by the vibrancy of the local flora and fauna, our team sought to infuse this living space with color, texture, and light.
This handsome dining room is furnished with handmade wood furniture from an American craftsman, the dining table is hewn from ebonized black walnut and paired with white oak and tan bridle leather chairs.

Our projects vary widely in scale and style. We do not ascribe to a “signature style,” but pride ourselves on being careful listeners who take the time to understand our client’s aesthetic preferences and functional needs.

All of our work is informed by a building’s existing architectural elements, the character of the people, and the spirit of the places we affect.
This primary suite was a study in contrast — light and dark, classic and modern, calm and punchy.
Our design concept centered around the vibrantly saturated rug sourced from Afghani weavers.
Interior finishes and furniture were chosen to provide a quiet backdrop for the stunning views, while infusing the home with a boho-chic sensibility that celebrates supple, natural, and handmade materials.
In the main living areas of this Kirkland home, our design concept aspired to create a very tranquil palette that responds to the sweeping Lake Washington views.
Custom details in this kitchen included woven blackened steel infill panels in the white oak cabinets, bookmatched marble back-splashes and countertops, bespoke brass and walnut light fixtures, and a hand-troweled venetian plaster hood surround.
This kitchen's updated space plan unified the kitchen and dining areas with an open plan, and allowed for an elongated central island to accommodate large family gatherings.
Our design concept for this artist's studio sought to infuse the space with modern femininity by embracing pink hues and the softness of bleached maple.

Sunshine hued cabinetry, natural brass accents, and turquoise mermaid tail tiles all play nicely with the sea-creature wallpaper and a classic mosaic hex floor in this little boys' bath.

In this detached lounge, a wall of built-in casework was designed to incorporate a full wet bar, and allow a custom-made oiled walnut and leather desk to slide perfectly into place at one end.
This Cape Cod style home features a sun-filled living room features a cozy window seat with custom built-in bookcases.
For this home office, we designed the ultimate backdrop featuring custom blackened bronze and white oak bookshelves for displaying a vast collection of awards, keepsakes and tchotchkes.
This waterfront home’s lower level Media Cave (also lovingly referred to as the “Man Cave”) was designed to provide a dramatic escape from reality with a sumptuously rich palette featuring a bold raspberry mohair sectional.
