Our top four takeaways from High Point Market.

Fun Fact: High Point Market is home to more than 11,500,000 sq. ft. of furniture & furnishings showroom space.

While the bulk of our work begins with interior architecture, our most beloved projects are those that span the full arc of design from initial space planning all the way down to interior furnishings. As professional interior designers, we are afforded “trade only” access to showrooms featuring the best makers, curators, and artisans — and High Point Market is the largest biannual home furnishings trade show in the world.

We sent some of the CB team on a scouting mission this past October to gather a little inspiration and check out the latest and greatest products at market. Here’s some of our key takeaways…

1. HYGGE IS TIMELESS

Perhaps strong autumnal influences were at play, but Hygge (the Danish term for “cozy, comfortable, contentment”) was a common theme throughout the market. Shaggy rugs, felted wools, warm lamplight, and organic forms were artfully curated to create a sense of warmth and welcome. Cozy throws, flickering candles, and textural artwork set the tone and were a lovely accompaniment to the fine furniture. We encountered more shearling than boucle — just one example of a trend towards natural materials which was evident throughout.

2. THE 70’S ARE BACK

Love it or hate it, the message was clear — the 70’s have come full circle with their chunky corduroy, bold stripes, and brown, brown, browns! Oversized sectionals were abundant, ready and waiting for your custom conversation pit or rumpus room.

3. SCULPTURAL LOUNGE PIECES

Around every bend we seemed to find a curvaceous little lounge chair to swoon over. Soft shoulders, rolled arms, accentuated wings — we’re here for all of it — because who doesn’t love a sculptural lounge piece?

4. PATTERN, ON PATTERN, ON PATTERN

Pattern is having a moment, and there was no limit to the amount of layering, scaling, and pattern-on-patterning to be seen (Lauren clearly approves).

We truly enjoyed seeing all the latest and greatest goods at market, and we came back inspired to work with new vendors and incorporate fresh product into our designs. Who’s ready for a furniture package!?
