THE GARDEN HOUSE
Nestled amongst lush gardens on all sides, this secret enclave in the heart of Santa Barbara maintains an incredible sense of privacy despite its urban locale. Inspired by the vibrancy of the local flora and fauna, our team sought to infuse each space with color, texture, and light. Custom furniture and furnishings were commissioned from artisan makers from both near and far. Original artwork and custom lighting were carefully selected, adorning each room with bespoke embellishment.
The Great Room is centered around a stunning curved sectional clad in a bold terracotta weave. Custom nesting cocktail tables crafted from from Silver Travertine and Claro Walnut were tailor-made to nestle right into the seating ensemble’s crook. Each and every soft good, tchotchke, book, and art piece was carefully selected to create an overall sense of calm cohesion.
Graced with a mild climate, this sunny California home embraces indoor-outdoor living by providing multiple spaces to enjoy a meal either within the home or alfresco.
The interior dining room opens directly to the Great Room allowing light and air to flow through from french doors located on both the north and south elevations. Furnished with handmade wood furniture from an American craftsman, the dining table is hewn from ebonized black walnut and paired with white oak and tan bridle leather chairs. The space is illuminated by a sculptural chandelier in natural porcelain and aged brass, and enlivened by a large scale acrylic and wax on canvas painting.
Th Garden House primary suite was a study in contrast — light and dark, classic and modern, calm and punchy. All the walls were covered in a subtly sophisticated paper resembling heavily troweled plaster, while the draperies brought in a bold and playful pattern. The ebonized white oak bed cuts a striking figure in the space and is perfectly complimented by the softness of the Carrara marble and Inchyra Blue lacquered nightstands.
The primary shower was completely reconfigured, clad in handmade zellige tiles, and fitted with the finest polished nickel fixtures.
Nestled into the southeast corner of this home, the Garden House Art Studio enjoys long light-filled mornings and direct access to the adjacent courtyard. Our design concept sought to infuse the space with modern femininity by embracing pink hues and the softness of bleached maple. Custom casework was designed to maximize storage for the artist-in-residence, while providing ample space for displaying personal treasures and works in progress.
The Garden House Guest Suite is comfortably tucked away in the second floor rafters of this Santa Barbara home. Our design concept centered around the vibrantly saturated rug sourced from Afghani weavers. The bed linens, art, and accent furnishings picked up hints of red, gold, blues, and black to create a space that feels simultaneously integrated and invigorating. A truly eclectic ensemble — this room features handmade goods from California, Washington, New York, Spain, Afghanistan, and Italy.
Tucked along the southern edge of the courtyard, this detached structure was conceived of as a multi-purpose space for work, exercise, and lounging. A wall of built-in casework was designed to incorporate a full wet bar, and allow a custom-made oiled walnut and leather desk to slide perfectly into place at one end.
Two Italian lounge chairs sit comfortably in front of an oversized ottoman and overlook the outdoor dining space in the garden beyond. Original artwork and and bespoke lighting was curated to create a sense of masculine sophistication unique to the Garden Lounge.
In keeping with overall design, the Garden Lounge powder room was wrapped in creamy white zellige tile and illuminated with custom sconces that sit above a stone and gunmetal bronze pedestal vanity.
